If you can’t beat them, make fun of them for being better than you – that’s the Yale way.
Thanks to their recent series of presidential election polls, Quinnipiac University garnered an ample amount of national attention over the past couple of weeks, leaving their next-door neighbor Yale out in the proverbial cold.
Naturally, Yale was less than enthused than by this shift, so several members of the University decided to publicly denounce Quinnipiac’s “squandering” of their endowment on a polling facility through the student newspaper.
You can almost taste the jealousy.
The Yale Daily News reports:
“Clearly Yale doesn’t need to make a name for themselves in that way,” Leiserowitz said. “I don’t know if that’s why other universities [start polling institutes].”
Though Yale might be good at conducting polls similar to Quinnipiac’s, Yale’s resources and faculty might not have much to contribute to the polling world in terms of producing more accurate or better-conducted polls, Gerber said.
[…] “I think that survey research as an academic field is on the wane,” he said. “It’s all well and good to do polls to get media attention but the fact of the matter is, polls are a dime a dozen.”
In other words, Yale is afraid that they won’t be as good as Quinnipiac at polling, so they’re not going to even bother trying. Instead, they’re going to sit atop their soapbox and hope someone, somewhere notices them weeping like babies.
Cry more, Yale, while the rest of us wait for Quinnipiac to release more poll results.
