Gideon part 2: College students Power!

Alright so to catch up go to my earlier post setting this one up.

Gideon Yago's main talking points were:

- Our generation (17-27 yr olds) make up just under 78 million people

- We are the most saught after demographic but we have little influence in politics

- The new Paris Hilton show is not, repeat NOT, his fault.

- He now works for CBS so he does not know why MTV doesn't play music videos anymore

To go deeper, he said that we, the consumer generation, are huge. Our numbers are three times the population of Iraq, double that of the UK's, and more than New York and California combine. Companies want to control our wallets more than any other demographic. We have so much more power than buying power and we don't even know it. He made the point that our biggest influential years were 1972, and 1992. The year 18 year old people gained the right to vote and the year we voted in Bill Clinton. The conditions that we usually vote are right after big legislation or after big wars. Times when we are directly involved i.e. drafts. Gideon predicts that we will influence this election in record numbers.

He also made the point that we only show are power in sprints. We do it for one election and then back off and let the country to go crap.

Alright you know what!?

Yes, my generation is distracted. We are easily apathetic and shortsighted. However I am personally tired of everybody saying that our generation is crap. We are amazing, we got Bill Clinton elected and that lead to a national surplus. Then we took a break to, oh I don't know, focus on things like: rockband, guitarhero, the internet, getting laid, growing facial hair, getting friends, learning guitar, changing majors, building our resume, winning NCAA titles, and other things to BUILD THE FOUNDATIONS OF OUR LIVES!!! Maybe we don't have time to fix the country because we are too busy finding out how the country got messed up by our parents and grandparents. My generation has it the hardest because we are looked to do everything that everybody else can't. We are the healthiest, we are the fastest, and we are the most open minded.

I say if there is a country by the time our generation gets into the government, we will have to work for the rest of our lives to fix this country. Knowing that, if we want to get drunk, play video games, and grabass for four years prior to that then we should have the right to do so. Because our lives will suck after. So college students; eat, drink, and be merry because we have so much work ahead of us.

Top Five Insults Said to Opposing Goalies

The former Redmen men's soccer team beat the current Orangemen men's soccer team last Thursday and with that come the post game analysis. This win adds to their 9-1-2 record this season. This means they have nine wins, one loss and two draws. More importantly, St. John's soccer is 5-0-0 at home. Why? Maybe it's because of technique, defense, offense, our record holding keeper, or maybe...just maybe...the fans?

St. John's soccer fans are brutal verbal attackers. I remember a time when an opposing defensemen broke his ankle on the pitch. While he was on the ground holding his ankle, a Red Storm supporter shouted "Hey! Broadway is that way!" To which the entire crowd laughed and then made baby sounds.

Here are the top five insults/taunting chants St. John's students are famous for:

1. Ugly Goalie!

2. We're red! We're white! We're F***ing Dynamite! We're the Red Storm of New York City!

3. You can't do that! (Clapclap-clapclapclap) You can't do that!

4. Kneal to Kitson! (Our Goalie's name is Neal Kitson)

5. F*** _______ (Insert Opposing Goalie's name or Goalie's mothers name)

Mid-Season Michigan Football Prediction Poll

You used to see this once or twice a year, now its five times in one game...

Tomorrow marks Michigan’s 6th game of the season and barring an absolute travesty, Michigan will find themselves at 3-3. My pre-season prediction of going 8-4 is looking rather slim at this point, especially with Penn State and Ohio State coming up on the road as well as the Michigan State home game in two weeks.

It’s been tough for my class of 2010 as Michigan football fans. Freshman year we found ourselves at the #2 spot heading into the match-up with #1 OSU and lost a great game. After getting snubbed (at the time it seemed like that) out of a rematch in the National Championship, we were torched by USC in the Rose Bowl. Last year was Appalachian State and this year is, well, we’re not quite sure yet. That’s why the polls are back open for you all to help answer this question:

What will the Michigan football team’s record be at the end of this season?

MSU-Northwestern deserves more props

The biggest matchup in college football this weekend is the one that is sneaking in the back door on ABC in Chicago: Michigan State at Northwestern. Rarely has it been that two teams with a combined 11-1 record and at first place in their conference get as little national attention as these to squads halfway through the season. If this were, say Florida-LSU (a combined 8-1), then you'd have the Game Day crew in town and it would grab national headlines... but, these are two schools from the snow belt where the snow has yet to fall, but who have dynamic running backs, greater/larger alumni base... and smarter students.

The Mildcats of Chicago are never taken seriously. And they shouldn't. But, if you are an opposing coach, you should not take them lightly, either. This is a team that runs the college version of catch-me-if-you-can, throwing the ball around like a piece of swiss cheese in a room full of mice. Half the time, the mice bite and take it to the hole... the other half the time, they scurry around looking silly. Still, its an effective way to be competitive when you won't give academic waivers and your players are only admitted if they can solve a calculus puzzle diagramming the area underneath the success of the catch-me-if-you-can playbook. If you love pretty passing and dandelions, you'll love the Mildcats.

On the other side, you have the Spartans of East Lansing, which are also rarely taken seriously, but for a different reason. This year's Spartans are the definition of cognitive dissonance, where a rallying cry of "yes we're good, yes we're good, yes we're good, yes we're good... etc" is as close to respect on the gridiron as they've had in 40 years. Reagardless of the record of consistent mediocrity, its significant alumni support keeps stadiums sold out annually. Millions of Spartan fans are gluttons for punishment. And, with the Doctor (MD - Mark Dantonio) as its new coach, MSU's version of smash-mouth football is a deliberate intention to pile-drive opponents into the turf without regard to resistance. If you love violence, you'll love the Spartans.

It is this backdrop that makes for one of the more intriguing matchups of the weekend. One of these teams has the chance to make a run at the Big Ten leaderboard. Yet, the Gods of college football give this game back-billing to more traditional football powers. For us Spartans and Mildcats, we say DAMN YOU -- as this game surpasses all others this weekend in significance and importance.

Our message for all of you two-or more-loss teams in the NCAA? There's still room on our bandwagons. Climb aboard, and enjoy the ride.

Gas Drops Below $3 on Campus

Even though the economy is in a state of emergency, there is some good news.

For the first time in over a year, gas prices dipped below $3 for the first time in over a year. On campus today Speedway on Hudson and High is selling unleaded for $2.969. Though much of this can be attributed to the end of Summer, it is a good sign.

Many are praising in the downtard trend of gas prices as a saving grace for an economy that is struggling to survive. Families already on a limited budget will surely have more money in their pocket which could help boost the economy.

UF Drops in Sexual Health Rankings

Trojan just released their Sexual Health Report Card and UF dropped four spots from 43 to 47. This is still better than our 49 rank in 2006, but it could use some improvement.

A complicated system of collecting data is used and spread out over 11 categories which include HIV testing, contraception availability and sexual health awareness programs. One hundred and thirty nine schools were polled. So overall, our ranking isn't so bad. I definitely wouldn't want to be DePaul University which ranked dead last. So here is a sexual health safety tip: don't sleep with people who go to DePaul.

In a related study, Healthy Gators 2010 (What is that? It sounds like a bad screen name.) conducted an overall health habits survey. They found that 34% of UF students haven't had sex in the past year and about 56% that did, used a condom the last time they had sex. I really hope that means the other 44% are at least on the pill.

If you'd like to help out in the fight against STDs, check out Trojan's Evolve One Evolve All campaign. You can help donate condoms to 1 million at risk Americans. Trojan will donate condoms for every comment or video left or any quiz or pledge taken on the site. Get involved. Healthy genitals are the only way to go.

An Inside Look at Ivy League Fraternity Pledging: Columbia Phi Kappa Alpha Edition

Last night, twenty well-dressed “giants” gathered outside of Butler Library on College Walk to show their commitment to Phi Kappa Alpha by engaging in a laundry list of group-bonding activities.

Orchestrating the group was a PKA brother, who commanded the pledges to respond at his every whim.

According to the Bwog, the men were given four tasks by their master over the course of their excursion into the neighborhood surrounding Columbia:

1. Yell that they were pledging “the best frat” ever, Phi Kappa Alpha. Anything short of an eardrum-busting shout was unacceptable.

2. Stalk the women on campus until they secure – at the very least – five phone numbers. One girl-shy pledge considered this an impossible task and suggested that the men fabricate the numbers, but surprisingly, they succeeded legitimately.

3. Lunge down to 114th street. When they got there, they walked towards Amsterdam Avenue and started chanting: “I don't know what I've been told/Eskimo ****'s mighty cold.”

4. Finally, scream at the top of their lungs – anything at all.

And so, dear readers, there you have it – a glimpse into the pledging process at an Ivy League university.

Sad, isn’t it?

JMU to Defend Their No. 1 Title

After recently sliding into the number one spot in the country, the guys on the JMU football team will defend their title against one of their biggest long-time rivals this weekend. The JMU Dukes and the Richmond Spiders’ rivalry go back years. They’ve played each other practically every year since 1981. Although Richmond has won more of these games than JMU, that doesn’t mean they will this year!

However, JMU is on a five-game winning streak and the thing about streaks is that eventually, they’re going to be broken. But let’s recap their last few match-ups back to the days when JMU was the #1 CAA team...

2004: Who cares who won this one? JMU won the national championship this year and that is all that matters.

2005: JMU lost. Boo!

2006: Victory for JMU!! 27-10 at the University of Richmond field—ha!

2007: JMU lost its Homecoming Game against Richmond by ONE point (which means this year is payback)

2008: To Be Continued. 3:30. Saturday. University of Richmond Stadium. Be there (or just watch it on TV). Or just wait to hear the results from someone else like I do.

It seems there might be an on-again, off-again pattern going on here. Hopefully this year, we are on again!
Mavericks Return To Minnesota

Dark clouds loom over Lakeview today, as self-proclaimed Mavericks John McCain and Sarah Palin return once again to Minnesota in a feeble attempt to get less people to hate them. Last time the mavericking pair came to Minnesota was at the Republican National Convention, accepting their nominations, where they took potshots at community organizers as the police state that surrounded them flooded our prisons with we the people. This time, the team will maverick it up in a town hall forum, propping folksy nothing statements against cheap blows aimed at the less mavericky of the candidates (you know, that one).

With Obama leading by 18 points in recent polls, it seems to me the maverickful Republican ticket ought to probably cut their losses: Minnesota hasn't voted Republican since 1972, and doesn't seem willing to start now. There's always talk of Minnesota being a swing state, but I doubt this little sit-in with Lakeview's confused elderly bumpkins will be much of a toss-up for how our state swings.

Maverick Maverick Maverick!

Beck: Oct. 9 United Palace Theater in NY

Last night Beck performed at the United Palace Theater. This is the fourth time Ive seen him and though I enjoyed the Guero tour perhaps a bit more - nothing will ever beat the incredible birds eye view of Beck and his whole band playing several entire songs on nothing but a table of half-empty and half-filled glasses - and I loved The Information tour's puppet show, Beck never disappoints.

The light show on this, the Modern Guilt tour, was reminicent of the light show of Radiohead's Hail the Thief tour but they definitely did different things with the set up. I kind of wish the whole thing had been more cohesive but thats just me, a big fan of Sonic Vision. Beck is a truly talented guy, despite being a Scientologist, and he does an excellent job selecting his backing band for there is an energy on stage that feels very comfortable, not as if theyre doing the audience a favor but as if theyre saying, "We made this for you." Ive had the pleasure of meeting some of his bandmates at SNL a year or so ago and they were just as nice and excited to meet me, as a fan, as I was to meet them and thats a great experience to have at a show.

Anyhow, he even had a female guitarist this time around and her presence was great as well. They all lined up with synth boxes and other musical gadgets of which I do not know the name and played "Hell Yes" and "Black Tambourine" completely in beats and beeps which, though my concert companion thought was kind of lousy, I really enjoyed. Altogether a great show, he even opened with a song he openly hates: Loser, as kind of a nice gesture to the crowd, getting it out of the way so that even he could have a great time as the performance went on.

McCain/Palin MIGHT Visit Indiana

An article from the Indy Star claims someone from the GOP MIGHT finally recognize that they're losing in Indiana--a state that hasn't voted for a democratic presidential candidate since 1964 (when pretty much the entire country did, too).

"Sen. Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican who is a close ally of Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, announced Thursday night that McCain or his running mate, Palin, plan to pay Hoosiers a visit.

There are no details yet about where or when the visit would take place, according to the McCain campaign."

Since this god-awful presidential race began, Obama has visited the state 46 times (the last being on Wednesday to a massive crowd of 21,000 people at the Indiana State Fairgrounds). McCain has been here twice.

Which is probably why the latest polls all seem to be either tied, or stand with Obama leading by several points. This is a shocking thing in Indiana, at least to me. Example: when the last election rolled around, there was a girl printing and handing out cards that said "John Kerry Eats Babies" at my high school.

We don't like none a them goddamn liberals none round here.

So I'll be waiting with baited breath for McCain to show his sagging, waxy visage somewhere in the state. I just can't wait to see that creepy-ass smile in person (I have a feeling it'll give me nightmares for months...). Or, better yet, should Palin come I'll actually get a chance to meet in person the people who support and believe in her (because I have yet to meet one).

Does this mean they'll be bringing their MTV cameras along with them to capture their free-wheeling lifestyle and zany antics? Who knows, but if so, this is your chance to take the stage and make an embarrassing appearance on reality TV.

Send In Your Michigan McLovin Sightings

It’s official, McLovin is on campus, I know this because yesterday my friend called me to say he just ran into him (and his camera crew) at Angell Hall. I believe his Pike party experience was supposed to be last night, but I could be mistaken. And I think he’s lined up for some more frat/campus fun today. His real name is Christopher Mintz-Plasse if you want to get him to like you by NOT calling him McLovin when you see him. I guarantee 99% of the people he meets don’t know his real name.

So my request is this, send in your McLovin info. Pictures would be fan-freaking-tastic, but even a halfway decent, true-sounding story will do fine. I’ll feature them below as I get them in. So far the info I have is that he’s every bit as shrimpy in real life as you would imagine, and isn’t acting like a douche. I knew you were cool McLovin.

Stories! Pictures! Go!

Update: "Chris got carried in at Alpha Delta Phi (Ad Phi, Shady Phi) and mobbed by a thousand DG girls. After a few awkward pictures and hitting on my roommate (in a classy way, he told her she was pretty) he made a dramatic, struggling exit towards the door where I imagine he rolled over to Pike in his black escalade. He was wearing a Michigan hat, he loves us :)"

"I met mclovin outside of the brown jug in the afternoon on thursday. I just walked up to him and asked if he was going to a frat party that night and he said he wasn't sure where he was going. um... then i introduced myself and told him that i'd see him later. there wasn't a crowd or anything. he was nice - really short"

Brown Students Reminded by the Police That Marijuana is Illegal, Too Stoned to Remember Themselves

College students often forget two things: 1) the legal drinking age in the United States is 21, and 2) smoking and/or possession of marijuana is illegal everywhere – except Amsterdam and a handful of other hippie-friendly locales.

Sadly, even Ivy Leaguers are susceptible to these “random” bouts of amnesia, and two Brown students learned this lesson the hard way when the police paid them an impromptu visit to their dorm room.

Around 12:52 a.m. last Saturday, Providence Police were called to Buxton House to investigate the cause of a fire alarm. While they were searching the premises for the source, they observed smoke emanating from a student’s dorm.

The Brown Daily Herald reports:

Upon entering the open room officers observed an ashtray in plain view with what appeared to be the remnants of marijuana cigarettes in it. They also smelled a faint odor of marijuana.

Additionally, there were two glass bottles of alcohol on a table. As the building was cleared for entry by the Providence Fire Department, two students returned to the room. They admitted that they had been in the room smoking and didn't realize they had set off the smoke detector. They were reminded that marijuana is illegal, that the drinking age is 21, and that smoking and glass bottles are not allowed in dorms. They were informed that a report would be filed for disciplinary action and the officers confiscated both the suspected marijuana and liquor. The matter has been turned over to the Office of Student Life.

Ouch – no mercy from the police, but that’s to be expected.

Question: Are there no windows in the dorm rooms at Brown? Were they too stoned/drunk to remember to how a smoke detector functions and to open a window to ventilate the room?

Too bad they didn’t read these tips beforehand.

It's a measly excuse for a "vacation," but it should be fun and relaxing nonetheless. Enjoy!

Columbia Loses Homecoming Game, Surprises No One

In fact, I was so unsurprised by the outcome of the game that I completely forgot I had gone and taken pictures. But here they are; a week late is perhaps better than never.

I am posting the homecoming pics now for the same reason I went to the game in the first place: it seemed like something I should do. I had never been to a college football game; tickets are free, and it's one of those things I thought I should do before graduation.

As I should have expected, nothing particularly noteworthy happened. The lackluster game (versus Princeton) ended with an anticlimactic fumble, and the two teams lined up for a handshake before time even ran out. Way to give it your all, Columbia. The marching band did very little playing and even less marching; the cheerleaders didn't do much of anything. Even the jeering was pathetic: Princeton's best attempt was a mostly illegible banner making fun of our baby blue school color; Columbia's best attempt was a joke over the loudspeaker about dishonored former governor Spitzer being a Princeton alum. Hitting absolute rock bottom, even the masses of sorority girls who had been drinking since 9 AM failed to do anything crazy or hilarious.

Absolute tragedy? That would imply that people had high expectations and actually care about Columbia football. More like a few wasted hours compensated for by the pleasant fall weather.

The Dead To Play The BJC

One of the greatest bands in music history will play the Bryce Jordan Center on October 13, 2008.

The Grateful Dead will reunite to play the State College venue in order to drum up support and raise funds for Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama.

Original Dead members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Micky Hart along with guitarist Warren Hayes and keyboard player Jeff Chimenti will play along with The Allman Brothers Band.

The Grateful Dead, whose career spans several decades, have contributed such hits as "Casy Jones", "Truckin" and "A Touch of Grey", which was their only top ten single.

The show of course will be missing Dead ring leader Jerry Garcia, who passed away in 1995.

This show is a continuation of their last show the band played for Obama in San Francisco last year.

It is assumed the venue is sold out for the concert.

Another Nobel in the Bag. It's No Big Deal.

It’s that time of year again, a time filled with anticipation and excitement just bubbling to overflow. That’s right folks: Nobel Prize Award Show Season! And, surprise, surprise, the UofC took home another one Tuesday thanks to the “physical” efforts of Yoichiro Nambu for "the discovery of the mechanism of spontaneous broken symmetry in subatomic physics" (duh) along with two other Japanese physicists. What is this, like our 82nd? But who’s counting? Well aside from Cambridge. Roger Tsien, a graduate of Cambridge U, won the Chemistry award today shooting their numbers up to 83 and stealing some of the spotlight. But the race isn’t over yet... ((http://nobelprize.org/nobelfoundation/press/2008/announcements_08.html)

So if you’re upset you couldn’t make it to the press conference on Tuesday there’s a reception Friday at the Gordon Center to celebrate another Nobel (and noble) member of the greater Chicago community. This is our 25th Nobel in Physics and UofC has won in every category EXCEPT Peace (wikipedia.org). But next week still includes Peace and Economics so hope is not completely lost (although it doesn’t look completely promising). So again, congratulations Nambu, boosting our status further and defending our showcase, the largest in North America. And peace out for now because apparently peace is something we need to work on.
Dartmouth's Dick's House Not As Good With Dicks

Note for non-Dartmouth kids: Dick's House is Dartmouth health services.

Everyone loves f-cking rankings, especially college rankings. People like reading them because people are naturally bitchy and rankers like publishing their "findings" because it creates buzz and attention.

I love rankings too, I'm not going to lie.

It's nice to be able to point to something pseudo-substantial to prove that the average bra-cup of College A is higher than College B, and thus, College A has a better library. You know? Because rankings just make sense.

Anyways, Trojan Condoms hopped onto the rankings train and since 2006 has released a ranking of sexual health programs at American universities.

"The survey, conducted by the data analysis company Sperling’s BestPlaces, used data from 9,000 student responses solicited through advertisements on Facebook."

What?...

1) People pay attention to the advertisements on the sides of their Facebooks?

2) Some people click on these?

3) Does anyone remember seeing these?

4) Who the hell took these?

To answer questions 1-4:

"The 28 Dartmouth students who responded to the survey gave the College’s sexual health services an average score of 4.3, on a 10-point scale."

These rankings sound more legitimate the more I read. You can read more about the survey here, where Trojan pretty much admits how stupid their rankings were. I'm pretty sure I posted about these rankings last year but I'm too lazy to find it.

Anyways, Dartmouth dropped to a low 68th place out of the 139 colleges surveyed, from a comfortable 25th place last year.

The Ivy League had the best overall sexual health grades out of the major athletic conferences. Dartmouth received the lowest ranking in the Ivy League.

Remember to have safe sex everyone!

For girls, that means staying away from AD brothers

For guys, that means staying away from the girls that frequent AD.

UC Davis Initiative: Rock the Weekdays Like the Weekends

It is Thursday night and I am too excited as I sit here counting down the hours until Friday. There is nothing particularly exciting about Fridays except that it is the weekend, and there is nothing better than being able to get drunk and sleep in all day. This is what the college student does best, with the exception of making beer a breakfast food. So rather than focusing on all the negative things of the weekdays, let’s try something new and learn to enjoy the glorious weekdays.

1) Try to set up special nights with your friends so that you have something to look forward to. For instance Gossip Girl's Monday, and if you don’t have to be up early the next day try making martinis to be festive.

2) Take a Luxurious bubble bath Wednesday nights, and pamper yourself with an at home facial, or yourself a lil pedicure and manicure set.

3) Thursday try to get to bed early so you will be rejuvenated for the busy weekend that lays ahead, because no one wants to look like shit when they go out Friday.

Hopefully you can take these pointers and learn to love the weekdays, and all that they offer.

UofM Alum to Appear on VH1's Pick Up Artist 2

Kevin Feng, a 2008 graduate, will be on the new season of VH1's The Pickup Artist, set to air this Sunday, October 12, at 10:00 pm. He went missing for a few months this summer and emerged back in Ann Arbor with bleached hair and an eyebrow ring. There was buzz about his image being found on the casting call website, but his participation on the show was only confirmed about two weeks ago.

He seems a lot less awkward than the other dudes on the show, so it's likely he will be making Michigan proud. From the videos on VH1's site, he's significantly cooler than the other guys... you can already tell since none of the footage of him is really cringe-worthy.

And for those who only read posts about the Greek system, Kevin was a DKE for like 3 semesters though he was deactivated. So there you go, Greek gossip too!

Yer Quality Michigan Music Fix at Mac's on Friday

If any of you get the chance to head on down to Mac's Bar on Friday night, you are in for a crazy treat. The Great Lakes Myth Society is set for a 9 pm gig in Lansing's best beer-stained music hall. This contemporary psychedelic folk pop band has a one-of-a-kind sound, as tunefilter.com calls it, "harken-back-to-the-ole-country" type music. The GLMS is on its annual fall tour: "With the first burn of orange in the leaves, we button our pea coats, drink a stout beer and hit the road." Gotta love it, pea coats, psychedelic Michigan music, and beer.

More directly, the Enlightened Spartan was turned onto the GLMS by an article in the Big Green (March 1, 2007) and his buddy, fellow MSU alum C Hock out in San Francisco. I get the elbow to the ribs that the lyrics are all about Michigan and they've been featured on CNN... and, sure enough, their music includes "Marquette County, 1959", "Isabella County, 1992", "Across the Bridge," "Northern Lights over Atlanta, Michigan," etc... Ok, so what's in a name? Namely... they're kick ass! Go to their website, and download a few tunes to sample if you don't believe me. Give it a spin... better yet, although we're all broke in Michigan and noone has a job, have a liquid dinner -- go to Mac's (get there early), drop your $8 to enter the venue, drop another $8 for a few pitchers of Pabst Blue Ribbon, another $8 for a taxi home... and enjoy a night of some of the best indie-ish music on our planet.

Baylor Parents Come in Herds this Weekend

Baylor Parent's Weekend 2008 is upon us. Well, almost. While mostly only parents of freshmen come, it's still a weekend when many, even upperclassmen's, parents come to check in on their kiddos. Not ready for your 'rents to make a visit? Grades need some mouth-to-mouth? Read on.

If your dorm/apartment/duplex/house is a war zone, make a list of things to clean. Believe me, marking things off with a dark pen - or even better, sharpie! - is a natural upper. You have one day to make your living space mother-approved. Make a cleaning playlist for your iPod, put in the earbuds and dance with your vacuum. Get the scrub on with a sponge or Clorox wipe. Watch your reflection sparkle in a newly cleaned mirror.

Next on the list? Grades. Midterms are coming up and if your parents want to meet professors, study up tonight and tomorrow, then visit your professors to go over something in your notes. Voila! A mini band-aid for your classes, so that when parents talk to professors, Dr. I -don't-care-about-your-class can talk about how he just saw you in his office the other day and "expects good things from you on the midterm next week."

Happy Parent's Weekend. And I do mean happy. :)
