Take boxing, add chess and sprinkle a pinch of absurdity on top to create: Chess Boxing, a "sport" that's sure to be all the rage with violence-prone college geeks.

Chess Boxing is a sport (we can call it that, right?) that first began in 2003 by a Dutch man named Lepe Rubingh who was inspired by a fictional description of the sport. Its popularity and rise to not-quite-mainstream status went from there.

The concept is goofy, but no stranger than triathlons or curling, if you think about it.

If you love chess, and you love hitting people, this could be the sport you were born for.
