College Student Selected in MLB Draft
On Friday, fellow St. John’s student Scott Barnes received notice of his draft into professional baseball. He was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the eighth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Amateur Player Draft. He was the 237th overall player taken. He also got calls from the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals expressing interest. However, according to Scott’s dad, no contract has been signed yet.

With his dream of playing major league baseball within his reach, and so many great teams calling him up, what is Scott waiting for? Well, when he was selected in 2005 by the Washington Nationals, he turned down the offer to attend St. John’s instead. Perhaps he is following through with his plan to finish school. Hot college drop-out Alicia Keys should take a few pointers from him.
