In an increasingly sensitive nation, it seems nothing mildly risqué can be said without someone crying an –ism (racism, ageism, anti-feminism - you get the picture). The latest bout of political incorrectness is Dreamworks’ Tropic Thunder.
The movie, which premieres next week, stars blackfaced Robert Downey Jr. and also includes a subplot starring Ben Stiller called Simple Jack, a movie about a mentally disabled character. The tagline for the Simple Jack movie poster reads, “Once upon a time…there was a retard.” Needless to say, Dreamworks will be meeting with disabilities advocates today to clear up their viral marketing mess.
As people anticipate Tropic Thunder's release, here are a few college examples of political incorrectness to hold you over until the movie premieres . . .
• Don Imus, radio talk show host and national pest was taken off the air for referring to Rutger’s Women’s Basketball team as “nappy headed hoes.”
• Students at Macalester College in Minn. were invited to attend a theme party – what was the theme? Politically Incorrect. School officials were shocked to hear that one student came dressed as a KKK member and another donned blackface with a noose hanging around his neck. Now under investigation, the party hosts probably should have opted for a Golf Pros and Tennis Hoes theme instead.
• Students at Penn State find a racist illustration in a PSU Algebra book about a teepee-shaped casino and happily posted it on CollegeHumor for all to see.
• It was every college guy's Halloween costume this year and a student at Duke University took it to a whole new level. Yes, I'm talking about Youtube's My New Haircut: Asian Edition.
