The Pride of Rutgers

The Pride of Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights took their first loss on Saturday at the hands of Maryland in what has graciously been described as a lackluster performance.

But the defeat on the field was overshadowed by an embarrassing display in the student section, where Maryland fans were assaulted with both food, drinks, and the familiar "****" chant.  Event staff were forced to eject two of the more raucous out of state visitors, but even Maryland students who were quietly watching the game were assaulted with peanuts and soda bottles.

A Rutgers student, presumably bearing some culpability, was escorted out of the stadium by no less than six officers.  The crowd responded by booing.

An unsportsmanlike conduct call late in the game cost the Knights 15 much needed yards.  But the unsportsmanlike conduct that's been common to the stands has cost Rutgers a lot more: its image.
