Hollywood’s top actors’ union, SAG, is currently negotiating a tough contract with major television networks and Hollywood studios. Last week, the Screen Actors Guild rejected -- yet again -- another proposal by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

What does this mean for you? Well for one, it is summertime. Most college students are bumming it at home (or elsewhere), and I’m sure they want to be able to unwind and enjoy their favorite shows. When classes start up again in the fall, who doesn’t want to enjoy Heroes or The Office with their favorite roomies or fellas during leisure time?

SAG is driving a hard bargain, and its old contract expired on June 30. "The last thing we need is a long, hot summer of labor strife that puts even more pressure on a badly struggling economy and deprives audiences of the entertainment they clearly desire in such difficult times," said AMPTP. If this doesn’t get resolved soon, we may have to say bye-bye to new episodes of Nip/Tuck, Lost and One Tree Hill.

The only good to come from all this striking is that all these god-awful television shows will lose momentum in the ratings and eventually be canceled. Way to sabotage yourself, Hollywood. Some of us who read, oddly enough, remain unaffected. Posted 07/11/2008 2:53 PMReply
