The Beatles are known as one of rock music’s most progressive and influential bands. These four English guys from Liverpool with goofy bowl haircuts, redefined rock and roll and set the world in a craze. The Beatles have been one of the most sought-after bands in history as they were usually followed by an entourage of screaming teenage girls but this week it’s not looking too good for the Beatles.

Katy Perry, pseudo lesbian and pop chart topper has tied with the Beatles for most popular #1 hit single. Her single, I Kissed A Girl has been number 1 on the Billboard charts for 14 consecutive weeks and can be heard at any and all bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Perry’s possible one hit single has been putting The Beatles to shame with her oh so scintillating and mildly scandalous song.

The Beatles have also found competition in UMich’s favorite drop-out, Madonna. MSNBC is reporting that although the Beatles were known for thoughtful lyrics and great music, Madonna has influenced many generations.

Beginning with her risque first single Like A Virgin in 1983 to her most recent collaboration with Justin Timberlake, Four Minutes. Madonna's career has spanned 25 years and still going strong. Unlike the Beatles who broke up and lost their popularity, Madonna is approaching her 50th birthday with a jam-packed schedule. 

So maybe it's for the best that the two Beatles relics, err I mean remnants, have some down time - now they can finally relax and worry about swatting away ex-wives.
