In spite of this, Stanford-based start up SpeedDate is going public. The site's concept combines the painful awkwardness of online dating with the awkward painfulness of speed dating. Just hook up a webcam, enter some information, and you can go on a series of three-minute dates with the same losers you stopped using AOL chatrooms to avoid.

SpeedDate's first public event is tonight on the website at 8pm. Only those with webcams and a keen sense of ironic degradation need apply.
