The students are cheering for it. The band wants to play it. What’s the hold-up?

It’s been almost a full year since the band blasted Swingtown with passionate abandon in Camp Randall, but evidently students will have to wait a little longer for this game day tradition.

The student section favorite has long been a hot point with the administration and protective parents due to the hearty “Eat Shit, F*&# You!” chant that accompanies it. The tune ominously disappeared from the band’s fourth quarter play list after their Michigan road trip and the accompanying uproar. Swingtown finally returned to close out the Fifth Quarter at the last home game of ’06 (above), but has yet to be heard in Camp Randall since, though stalwarts pleaded for it even as the band exited the stadium Saturday.

Since the students start that obnoxious chant themselves even without Swingtown, why don’t Chancellor Wiley and the fun police just let everyone get into it and call it a truce?
