Construction Obstruction

Construction Obstruction

In all of my 3 years here at Binghamton, there’s always something or other under construction. I understand they are trying to beautify the campus (We are rated one of the most unsightly campuses by the Princeton Review) but seriously, when does it end? Freshman year, it was the Union, Sophomore year, it was the “Spine,” the road right smack in the middle of campus, and now, it’s Newing, and the Old Union. Now, this year brings, quite possibly, the greatest inconvenience of all.

With the construction of Newing, the obvious parking situation brings great tension to campus life. With an entire community’s lot gone, there is already a huge decrease in available parking spots. Now, wouldn’t one think that they would open up a snow lot or a commuter lot for the taking? One would think, yes. But, do they do it? No, of course they don’t. This is Binghamton, after all.

Then there’s the construction of the Old Union. Right now, it doesn’t seem like an issue. But, just wait until the frigid weather takes hold of this great little city. Cutting through the Old Union is one of the oldest Binghamton shortcuts. Now, we must trudge through the snow and ice to get to the other side of campus. I predict a huge increase in handicapped students this year. Hopefully they’ll add some more parking for these future casualties.
