New Years Resolution: Read A Book

New Years Resolution: Read A Book

“Chelsea Handler writes like Judy Blume, if Judy Blume were into vodka, Ecstacy, and sleeping with midgets…”

Being an avid Judy Blume fan, and not to mention pretty fond of vodka, this quotation instantly caught my attention. In fact, the title alone, Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea, seemed so enticing that this book has been on my to-read list for the better part of the year. While it’s a bit late for an official review, I’m hoping that many of you have been in the same boat. Being the overwhelmed college students that we are, it’s rare that we have any down time to read for pleasure during a semester.

So, during this mind-numbingly long break, I’d like to take it upon myself to urge all of you to read this book. It is truly hilarious. And when I say hilarious—I literally found myself maniacally laughing at the doctor’s office. Each story is driven by Handler’s sardonic voice. Her inner thoughts are sick, twisted, and wonderful. I find myself relating to her in ways that make me question my own mental stability. Her social commentary is on par with Seinfeld—though I’m not sure her tales could ever be adapted to cable television.

So this New Years, throw in a good book for the sake of a healthy resolution.  Because, let's face it, while you're at home, chances are you aren't getting your usual fill of liquor.  You know what they say, if you can't drink it, you might as well read about it.

My new years resolution was to read more, because I sure haven't read anything but textbooks since starting college. I got most of the way through that first Twilight book, which is wicked good. But started fading on my resolution once classes started back up. A friend introed me to the dailyreader.net thing yesterday to keep to my resolution. I think it will work or at least help because they email the send the books to my email each day to keep me honest. I'll have to add the Chelsea book to my list too! Posted 01/14/2009 11:55 AMReply
