Ripe Produce: Must Read Michigan Stories

We know you’re all out of school, but we’re going to attempt to keep you abreast on Michigan news this summer with a new feature. Similar to Fresh Cream, Ripe Produce will feature local UMich news that’s “ripe for the reading.” Here are five summer stories you must read.

* Starting August 15th, UMich alumni living in the Big Ten states will finally be able to catch all the Wolverines’ games on television. Thanks, Comcast!

* The Free Press explored how two student managers singlehandedly “saved” UMich’s 1997 championship game against Northwestern. Sensationalism at its finest!

* Time to take out some more loans. The Board of Regents approved a 5.6 percent tuition hike for the upcoming fall term.

* A UMich study has found that controversial abortion drugs Mifepristone and Misoprostol, collectively known as RU-486 and sold by Planned Parenthood, have caused the deaths of at least eight women.

* Michigan alum Hebba Aref questioned Barack Obama’s message of diversity after she and another alumnus were denied seating at a recent rally in Detroit because of their Muslim head scarves.
