Finally science agrees with me that sleeping is more important than little things like homework and studying. New research finds that working hard when fatigued could be harmful to one’s health.
The psychologists at the University of Alabama at Birmingham believe that individuals increased their effort to make up for fatigue when trying to complete an achievable undertaking. As a result, they found that tired people had larger blood pressure increases than rested people. And we all know high blood pressure is no good, bringing with it hypertension and heart disease.
The study implies that chronic fatigue could cause health problems when people must perform tasks like those often present at work or at school. And I’d like to see a college student who isn’t chronically fatigued.
So next time a professor asks me why my paper isn’t done or why I skipped out on the midterm, I’ve got a foolproof, academically sound, scientifically valid excuse: I’m just too tired. When it comes to your health, you can never be too careful!
