Deprivation of Sleep and Students' Drug Habit

Deprivation of Sleep and Students' Drug Habit

According to an article released by Brown University, “College students are among the most sleep-deprived people in the country.” I wouldn’t doubt this for one minute because as a college student, I find myself getting three hours of sleep most days of the week because I am trying to manage my rigorous course work (and having a job).

We’ve all heard before that 8 hours of sleep is generally required to remain healthy and alert, but it really does vary person to person. Choose quality sleep over quantity sleep. Pulling all-nighters can be detrimental to your health, and can lead to other long term effects like insomnia.

A study conducted in 2001 stated “11% of college students have good sleep quality, and 73% have occasional sleep problems. This same study found that 18% of college men and 30% of college women reported suffering from insomnia within the past 3 months, and over half reported feeling sleepy during the morning.”

Thus, the abuse of the drug adderall has skyrocketed on college campuses.

If you have insomnia or have considered using adderall, please visit Brown’s website and read the entire article. It has tons of valid information and tips to help you through this.
