Final thoughts?
Let me start out by saying that I loved, loved, loved the show. It was a funny, heartfelt and relatable chronicle of the relationships of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. When I heard that a movie version was coming out, I honestly had doubts. Sure, I was excited about its premiere but since the show was already perfect as it was, I wondered what the producers could do to make it even better. I was not sure how its transition onto the big screen would fare. This weekend, I got my answer.
To be blunt, I did not like the movie. It lacked the comedy, wit and sexiness that the show and its lovely characters possessed. I understand that the movie takes place four years later and the producers wanted to present to us characters that have changed and matured but something was lost in translation.
The characters were out of character and too much time and effort was spent wreaking havoc on their lives and relationships. The show ended on such a high note. Why did they have to ruin all that? To prove that love conquers all? To show that these women have a vulnerable side? Whatever the reason was, it did not work. In my opinion, they ruined the integrity of the show and for no good reason at all.
Some things are better left alone and Sex and the City: The Show is one of them. Although it was number one at the box office, I have a feeling that the movie will soon be forgotten. I know I’d like to forget what I saw this weekend. The show ended four years ago and it is still so influential. They say that if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Well, the show was flawless. They shouldn't have touched it.
