American History, Excluding The Part Where We Obey Police Officers
Noted historian and Tufts professor Felipe Fernandez-Armesto's new book "Amerigo: The Man that Gave His Name to America" is garnering lots of praise, but not quite enough to let us forget that this is the guy who got arrested for jaywalking last January.

Apparently, he's knowledgeable enough about the New World to write the history of the guy we were named after, but not enough to realize how to follow directions from a crossing guard.

Despite his inability to understand the basics of street-crossing that most three-year-olds can grasp (and his inability to master English grammar enough to decipher between the uses of "that" and "who"), Fernandez-Armesto is still capable of writing a book that earned a Publisher's Weekly starred review and was named "Book of the Week" by "The Week" magazine. Who knew?
