Guess what. There are actually rules about parking your bike on campus. I know it doesn't seem like it since you pass the same one with the bent rim every day on your way to class, but you actually have to register them and park them in the appropriate places (which would be bike racks). Well, looks like PSU is cracking down on you law breakers by putting yellow tags on your illegally parked and unregistered bikes! Oh noes!

I saw probably 20 bikes (and one shopping cart) today with these yellow tags on them around the electrical engineering buildings and Deike. Most of them were for outdated (or no) registration, but there were a few that were improperly parked. Turns out you have to register your bike and get a permit from Centre County, which is good for two years. If you have a bike and need to register it, here are some places you can go, just be sure to bring your PSU ID:

• any of the Kiosk Information Booths on campus (between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday)
• University Police in the Eisenhower Parking Deck (after normal business hours)
• the tent in front of Eisenhower Auditorium during arrival week
• the White Course Apartments-sponsored bicycle rodeo held in early summer

Bicycle rodeo? Really? What's that like? Someone tell Bob Heisse, there's a rodeo in town that doesn't involve bulls.

Anyway, you're probably thinking, "so what? Give me a yellow tag, what do I care?" Well according to Penn State "abandoned or nonregistered bicycle parked on campus, or any bicycle parked in a way that hinders University operations or obstructs steps or a handicap ramp, may be removed and impounded by University Police. If not claimed within three months after impoundment, it shall be deemed a gift to the University, to be disposed of through appropriate University channels." As if you haven't given enough to the university.

So register those bikes. Oh, and this goes for Segways too. Seriously, how do I get my hands on one of those?
