After a semester filled with tedious work and late nights at the library, students need a way to blow off some steam and year-end festivals are just the ticket. These festivals rival each other with the best parties, worst scandals and craziest concerts. Bearing a striking resemblance to New Orleans' Mardi-Gras Festival (without the beads), students have become immune to witnessing tons of breasts and arrests. But which school takes the keg for best party?
New Brunswick's own Rutgers University hosts their own rendition of the year-end festival dubbing it Rutgersfest. Rutgersfest 08 achieved in bringing in thousands of people to participate in the carnival-themed festivities but what really brought in massive crowds was the Spring Concert. Third Eye Blind accompanied by Fabolous headlined the concert making it one of the most successful Rutgersfests to date.
Columbia University's Bacchanal is a week-long festival of (judging by its name) drinking! This Ivy League school lets loose for a week amidst the hustle and bustle of New York City. Spanning from a highly anticipated Spring Concert to the closing Hawaii Luau, Columbia proves that Ivy Leaguers know how to have a good time.
University of Connecticut, a campus overflowing with life and about 16,000 students, is best-known for their Spring Weekend. This year's past Spring Weekend was filled with all sorts of non-alcoholic activities like a Chicken Nugget Eating Contest, a Dodgeball Tournament and a myriad of theme-oriented cook-outs but liquor is still an ever-present part of Spring Weekend. This year's Spring Weekend resulted in 51 arrests, sexual assault allegations and even an article in The New York Times about UConn students' unruly behavior. So although some colleges have stories about year-end festivals past, UConn continues to top all its rivals.
