Syracuse University has just announced that it has received a record number of applications for the class of 2012. The maximum amount of students that Syracuse can hold is roughly 13,150 students (or about 3,250 per class). It’s reported that S.U. has received a whopping 22,000 applications. That’s nearly double the entire student body! 18,000 students have been waitlisted or rejected. Sorry guys.

It’s clear that the desirability to get into S.U. is incrementally rising, yet the ranking of ‘Cuse seems to remain fixed (it’s been around the 50th spot – determined by U.S. News – for the last five years), so what gives? Syracuse has built at least five new big buildings in the past few years, and plans to do even more major construction; they’ve got incredibly strong business, architecture, and communications divisions; they’re building one of the biggest malls in the world right down the road; the lacrosse team just won the NCAA championship; the B-Ball team's legit; and they have hot girls.

Seriously what do these other schools have that S.U. doesn’t? …Okay, our football team's miserable, but hey everyone’s got their Achilles heel.

This is a real douchebag move by me, and I realize that, but since this person is an EDITOR, and is bragging about how SWEET THEIR SCHOOL IS, I couldn't let this go unaddressed. I present to you, OTR readers, a few of the grammatical mistakes contained in this post:

Lots of passive structure
desirability can't describe "to get into"
desire is not discrete and therefore can not be incremental
"an incredibly strong business, architecture, and communications divisions" has singular/plural contradictions
"the B-Ball teams legit" means absolutely nothing without an apostraphe
"our football teams miserable" means absolutely nothing without an apostraphe
you need a comma after "but hey"
and finally YOU USED THE WRONG ****ING FORM OF THE WORD THERE.

Seriously OTR? Seriously?

To the last "anonymous," you spelled "apostrophe" incorrectly...but your rant is in general correct. People don't want to go to Syracuse because THEIR students just don't match up with Georgetown. HOYA SAXA! Posted 06/14/2008 9:16 PMReply

if we got 13150 students how come i seen the people in that picture a million times around cuse. But as far as college experiences go i think its pretty legit. Its
not in total bum**** like other big schools and real estate is worthless so off campus livin is cheap.
