San Diego State Students, Frats Screwed in Drug Bust

San Diego State Students, Frats Screwed in Drug Bust
They called it Operation Sudden Fall

Undercover agents, posing at coke junkies, nabbed 75 San Diego State students this week. Search warrants were also served at multiple student apartments and the Theta Chi fraternity house.

"Undercover agents purchased cocaine from fraternity members and confirmed that a hierarchy existed for the purpose of selling drugs for money," the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said in a statement.

Directly focused on San Diego State University and its fraternities, DEA officials said the probe was “sparked by the cocaine overdose death of a student in May 2007.”  Before that investigation could be completed a second student, from Mesa College, died of a cocaine overdose at an SDSU fraternity house on Feb. 26.

This week’s arrests have forced SDSU president Stephen Weber to publically admit drug trafficking is abundant on his campus.  In addition to the coke and E, authorities also seized several guns, $60,000 in cash, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, hash oil, methamphetamine and illicit prescription drugs.

According to an article by the AP, the probe was conducted jointly by university police and federal drug agents, and “more than 130 undercover drug buys were made at locations including fraternity houses, student parking areas and in student dormitories.”
