Student Puts Granny's Knitting Needles Together For Change
SU student launches effort to spruce up the slums of Syracuse—as if it wasn't one already.

Granny panties are definitely out this fall, but knitting needles are the hottest accessories thanks to SU student of fine arts and crusader for change, Jennifer Marsh.

Marsh launched the International Fiber Collaborative in May 2007 in response to the overconsumption of oil by the United States—SU students driving around Escalades—and abroad. Local Syracuse artists, professional artists, hobbyists, and students worldwide were asked to come together to express their concerns about their countries' extreme dependency on oil for energy by making a 3-foot square panel via crocheting, knitting, patching or stitching.

The massive cozy will be draped over a deserted gas station in Dewitt once finished.

Does the future hold a beer cozy line a la Jennifer Marsh? Be forewarned, jousting with knitting needles under the influence can be fun until someone looses an eye.
