Hot Damn!

My co-pilot and I (call us A and J) are off on the classic, all-American college road trip from Syracuse, New York to the Pacific Ocean, and back to Colorado for the summer, via Washington D.C., New Orleans, Denver, the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles and San Francisco. We’ll be camping and staying with friends and family along the way, and aim to run into as many crazy locals and hillbillies, while dabbling in as many adventures as possible. Leaving the red house behind, jumping into the red truck, and hitting the road (at 3 am!), will mark the beginning of summer and good times all around. With the price of gas and a college-kid’s budget, we plan on roughing it more often than we probably want – hot dogs and Ramen galore.

But before we leave, we must sort out the explosion of clothes, schoolbooks, and camping gear that are taking up most of the space in the house. After taking three finals today, we spent the afternoon packing the truck and getting ready to leave. Being poor has left us with only a tarp to wrap all the belongings in the back of the Toyota Tacoma truck, and hopefully our carefully wrapped garbage-bagged belongings will stay dry despite any rainy encounters.

Armed with a North Face tent, two MSR Whisperlite camping stoves, two sleeping bags and some Japanese Origami folding plates and bowls, not to mention an all-in-one fork, knife, spoon utensil, the road trip should be nothing but a success. That is if I get a few winks off sleep before our 3 am shove off time. Two hours till take-off.
