Syracuse University leading receptionist, Mike Williams, has been suspended from school because for academic reasons. It’s still unclear whether he’ll have a future with the team.

The loss of   Williams will surely harm an already hurting orange football team. The Orange has lost a staggering 28 games in the last three years.

It seems as though the Orange is just destined to have bad luck. Consider their recent history:

2005: Receiver Landel Bembo breaks his leg just days leading up to the game opener against West Virginia.

2006: Taj Smith breaks his collarbone

2007: Tom Ferron quits the team

2007: Carter dislocates hip during spring practice

2007: Delone Tailback Curtis Brinkley injures knee in same practice, then breaks his leg.

2007: Jermaine Pierce has blood clots, forced to retire

2007: Jared Kimmel tears ACL in left knee

2008: Mike Williams suspended

Given the extremely bad luck of the Orange, Williams’s departure will surely be a bitter one – especially since it’s something that could have been prevented.

I’m not sure what the minimum GPA a Cuse football athlete needs to maintain, but I’m guessing it’s not very high. The fact that Williams let his team down in such a simplistic way has to be infuriating to his teammates.

Apart from his teammates though, does anyone care? Haven’t we all pretty much given up on the Orange by now?
