How To Keep College Administration Accountable?

How To Keep College Administration Accountable?

Weighing the importance of free speech against the preservation of a respectful campus, college administrators offer err on the side of caution and argue that discontent either does not ''meet the civility test'' or should go through the proper channels.

Here's a ramble for you: som

Stanford Whips University of Spoiled Children

Stanford Whips University of Spoiled Children
USC football got completely ****ed up by Stanford on Saturday -- but hey, at least they used a Trojan. The 24-23 last-quarter upset was a headline-making victory this weekend and if you were anywhere in SF, it was the victory that launched a thousand hips. Among all the celebratory orgies, ... MORE »

One Year In: Looks Like Aoun Isn't the Leader He was Chalked Up to Be

One Year In: Looks Like Aoun Isn't the Leader He was Chalked Up to Be
After months of people talking down on new president Joseph Aoun finally there's some legit criticism as to why the man's been slacking.

The Globe has a short but sharp piece on how Aoun's been riling up the faculty by making decisions without them.

Is big bird Aoun neglecting to feed the baby birds when it comes to decisions o'er on Columbus Ave? Looks like it.

The Most Glorious Holiday of All is Finally Here!!!!!
Surely you haven't missed the exciting news that Northwestern is, in fact, recognizing Constitution Day. Can you imagine anything more exciting than a holiday that doesn't affect anyone in the student body, given that none of us have arrived on campus yet? Thank God that an e-mail no... MORE »

This Is Only a Test...

This Is Only a Test...
You know that expensive campus speaker system Northwestern installed in order to protect us in case of an emergency, like excessive litter or escaped lions? Campus sources tell us that, from within several Northwestern buildings, the system is virtually inaudible. Which would make it the opposite of effective. Hedge your bets and avoid classes altogether; it's the only guaranteed way to stay safe.

Stanford's Human Trafficking Streak Continues

Stanford's Human Trafficking Streak Continues
Okay, technically not slave trade (administrators at least get a living wage -- zing!), but Stanford has stolen yet another mid-level administrator from a competing university. Thomas Black, from U Chicago, is going to replace beloved registrar Roger Printup in the fall.

Apparently Black ... MORE »

Brav New Bikini Wax

Brav New Bikini Wax
Hot on the heels of the Daily's semi-psychotic Google streetview paranoia, I decided to do a little sleuthing, and the results may surprise or nauseate you. Is it just me, or does that tasty little dish bear a striking resemblance to kindly campus administrator John Bravman? Yowza, no wonder people can't wait to get out of FroSoCo.

Frank H.T. Rhodes Supports Mandatory 2 Year Draft For High School Graduates
During alumni weekend, Frank T. Rhodes (Cornell's president from 1977 to 1995) gave a speech which he began by quoting Stephenson: "It's my job to speak. It's your job to listen.  If you get through before I do, do feel free to drop off."
