Even the frat boys of Beta were blasting MGMT songs at their parties over the last week (although their MGMT picks were hideously mismatched with their "I'm a white boy from the suburbs and I consume mainstream rap to feel like a rebel" musical choices). Students sit among daisy-chained televisions, amplifiers, candles, and incense upstairs in house of experimental musician/installation artist pair Rod O'Connor and Adam Tinkle. The two performed a recent work for friends at their house at the end of the semester. (House of O'Connor and Tinkle)
The piece was engineered to create interaction between the sounds originating from Adam's guitar and the visual manifestations of Rod's camera/television set-up. The effect was meditative, colorful, and, at moments, mesmerizing. Lovely, intimate.
