So not every college student is gaga for Obama. Take for example the McCain-supportin’-B carvin’ gal Ashley Todd. (Too soon?) Anyway, at Texas A&M, the Young Republicans decided to voice their opposition with a cute little anti-Obama carnival.
The festivities included a “Socialist on a Stick” ring toss and a place to throw away your nest egg. The nest egg protest, though, really just amounted to students throwing eggs at a picture of Obama. Unsurprisingly, some people were offended. They called the activity a personal attack rather than an informed analysis of policies.
KBTX reports on the reactions:
"You have plenty of McCain supporters out here who think this is ridiculous. Ya'll are way out of hand," said Farren Congress, a Blinn College freshman who caught the demonstration on her way to cast an early vote.
Wait, Blinn College… isn’t that where Ashley Todd (who, by the way, is out of jail and onto mental health treatment) went to school? Sorry, I digress again. Back at the carnival, the Young Conservatives responded to the criticisms:
"And in an intelligent fashion we'd like to discuss his policies cause its not Barack Obama the man that we have the problem with. Its his socialist, liberal polices that we are concerned with," said Jay Cunningham of Texas A&M's Young Conservatives of Texas group.
Although members took their carnival events down, they continued their demonstration.
"Was this the most effective means to do that? No and I promise you we will be back out here again and we will do the same event and we will have his policies on the board," said Cunningham.
Hope you’re all looking forward to another anti-Obama carnival… in the next 5 days, I would assume. Somehow, though, I don’t think throwing eggs at a tax plan will pack quite the same punch.

Stumble It

You know, you "Young Conservatives" have been nothing but a petty, immature and disgusting campus presence since I can remember. I remember those Hillary Clinton tshirts you guys made. Nobody's got a problem with disagreement or political opinions. But you guys do it in a distinctly tasteless way, and you need to grow up.
You disgrace the name of Aggie.

As to the Sarah Palin effigy, that was done on private property, not on a school campus, and the property had other Halloween themes. Posted 10/30/2008 8:18 PMReply
Let's be honest, "Conservative" is the new code word for people who want to see Christianity and its tenants wield more influence over our political environment. Posted 10/30/2008 10:13 PMReply
think of something valid to say, and people might take your group more seriously. Posted 11/01/2008 01:50 AMReply
