Texas A&M Young Conservatives Hold Anti-Obama Carnival, Barack Gets Egged

So not every college student is gaga for Obama. Take for example the McCain-supportin’-B carvin’ gal Ashley Todd. (Too soon?) Anyway, at Texas A&M, the Young Republicans decided to voice their opposition with a cute little anti-Obama carnival.

The festivities included a “Socialist on a Stick” ring toss and a place to throw away your nest egg. The nest egg protest, though, really just amounted to students throwing eggs at a picture of Obama. Unsurprisingly, some people were offended. They called the activity a personal attack rather than an informed analysis of policies.

KBTX reports on the reactions:

"You have plenty of McCain supporters out here who think this is ridiculous. Ya'll are way out of hand," said Farren Congress, a Blinn College freshman who caught the demonstration on her way to cast an early vote.

Wait, Blinn College… isn’t that where Ashley Todd (who, by the way, is out of jail and onto mental health treatment) went to school? Sorry, I digress again. Back at the carnival, the Young Conservatives responded to the criticisms:

"And in an intelligent fashion we'd like to discuss his policies cause its not Barack Obama the man that we have the problem with. Its his socialist, liberal polices that we are concerned with," said Jay Cunningham of Texas A&M's Young Conservatives of Texas group.

Although members took their carnival events down, they continued their demonstration.

"Was this the most effective means to do that? No and I promise you we will be back out here again and we will do the same event and we will have his policies on the board," said Cunningham.

Hope you’re all looking forward to another anti-Obama carnival… in the next 5 days, I would assume. Somehow, though, I don’t think throwing eggs at a tax plan will pack quite the same punch.

I didn't notice any condemnation of the hanging of Palin in effigy...guess that's ok. I find both equally poor in taste. Posted 10/30/2008 6:13 PMReply

Jay Cunningham, careful---your bigotry and racism is showing. Socialist on a stick? Really? Why not from a noose? You make me sick. Posted 10/30/2008 6:39 PMReply

HOW IS SAYING HE IS A SOCIALIST BEING RACIST?? and besides, if the situation had been reversed, no one would have said a thing.....it wasn't meant to be an attack on his race...it was his anti American-way policies....plus, Obama has more white blood in his body than black...people need to stop being so dang sensitive...what about Palin being hung?? I don't think these guys are representative of the school as a whole. These are the same geniuses that came up with the affirmative action bake sale. As a proud member of the fightin' Texas Aggie class of 2003, I'm similarly proud to say that I'll be voting for Obama. Posted 10/30/2008 7:45 PMReply

How embarrassing. Wise choice in turning off the wall post feature of your Facebook, Mister Cunningham.

You know, you "Young Conservatives" have been nothing but a petty, immature and disgusting campus presence since I can remember. I remember those Hillary Clinton tshirts you guys made. Nobody's got a problem with disagreement or political opinions. But you guys do it in a distinctly tasteless way, and you need to grow up.

You disgrace the name of Aggie.

The nest egg thing is pretty funny. It would have been funnier to have the contestants toss the eggs at IRS bags or something of that sort, but it is still fairly clever.

As to the Sarah Palin effigy, that was done on private property, not on a school campus, and the property had other Halloween themes.

McCain calling Obama a socialist is hilarious, considering McCain has supported similar progressive taxes until just recently when he flipped on the idea to become more palatable to the disturbingly rich who basically run the RNC.

Let's be honest, "Conservative" is the new code word for people who want to see Christianity and its tenants wield more influence over our political environment.

Both of these sides were total disgraces to Aggies everywhere. Why is no one outraged at the fact that Obama Supporters threw eggs at the YC whereas they just threw it at a photo. And then several protesters in front of an abortion clinic had eggs thrown at them who weren't even at the rally. Then the conservatives were stupid for doing this in the first place with out thinking about the consequences. Posted 10/31/2008 4:09 PMReply

thank god somebody is speaking up against obamas policies! does anybody in america work? of course there is ! how could we want him for president? he plans to tax the american workers even higher so that he can have an "even distribution of the wealth"! socialism in it's exact definition! and it's also his words! he wants to give the money we put our sweat, heart, blood, and time into so we can have better lives, and give it to those who are lazy ! the people who will get the money are the people who sit at home all month , not even trying to get a job, waitting for a government check! i will no longer support lazy people who will not help themselves ! nor will i let a president make me give up everything i earned to spread the wealth! i worked hard while they partyed in high school! it's called consequences ! take respondsibilty for your own! @ Anonymous: Wow, some of you people are clueless. "Hate" Obama? You are totally showing your true colors. Easy to make blanket statements hiding behind a white hood and sheet and behind anonymous postings. Hate mongers like you are exactly what's wrong with this country. Open your eyes; I know it's hard to see through those little eye holes in your white hood. You make our university look like backward hillbilly rednecks. Posted 10/31/2008 8:34 PMReply

this is another example of the yct at a&m not having any real arguments, and resorting to ridiculous and hateful over-the-top displays. its reminiscent of the mock weddings that yct staged in 2005, where people were "marrying" their dogs or cell phones in protest to gay awareness week.

think of something valid to say, and people might take your group more seriously.

It is crazy how so many people can be so close-mineded. It is one thing to disagree with Obama's policies but it's another thing when you say that you hate him and would perfer to throw eggs at his face. Whtat is that going to prove? If you disagree with his policies then talk about that, I just dont see how throwing eggs at the man face is going to solve any problems. It really shows how ignorant people are. I am a hard worker, sheaded blood, sweat, and tears and yes I am a college student but everybody is not fortunate enough to have rich families. And not everyone out there without a job is lazy. Whether we want to admit this or not but our society does not offer the same opportunities to everybody. Its Reality, Accept it. I just want to say to any members of the YCT, you completely disgraced the aggie community. Posted 11/01/2008 02:07 AMReply
