Texas A&M Young Conservatives Continue Creating Controversy, Pissing People Off

The Young Conservatives at Texas A&M don’t shy away from a controversy – you’ve got to give them that. From the group that brought you the anti-Obama carnival, we now have a campaign against TAMU professors.

The Young Conservatives recently posted fliers on campus about four TAMU professors who signed a petition that opposed the “demonization” of William Ayers. The petition circulated during the election and asked for support for education “as an enterprise devoted to human inquiry, enlightenment and liberation.” How dare those professors ask for such a thing.

This flier brouhaha has caused the Young Conservatives’ faculty adviser, John Fike, to resign his role. Fike says he was “ashamed beyond words” by his group’s actions.

The Houston Chronicle explains:

The fliers quoted Ayers as saying he doesn't regret setting bombs. They included photos of the four Texas A&M professors with the words, "Would you support a man with these views?"

Fike said in an e-mail to the faculty that he had initially told the Young Conservatives that they should stand for all that was good about conservatism and reject the bad.

"I also told them that if I was ever ashamed of them, that was it for me," Fike wrote. "I am now ashamed beyond words."

But the Young Conservatives didn’t take the criticism lying down.

Tony Listi, chairman of the Young Conservatives, said the group was going to cut ties with Fike, who had advised them for three years, even if he had not quit.

Listi said Fike is not a Republican and had a "Barack Obama for President" sign outside his house.

Blasphemy!

Is this a story because Young Conservatives embarrassed themselves or because Aggies embarrassed themselves? Either way, where's the story? Posted 11/24/2008 2:58 PMReply

**** you and your stereotyping, ****s. Not all southerners are close-minded uberconservative idiots. It's people who insist on shoving people into categories who are ruining this country. Open your ****ing mind and behave like you've had SOMETHING of a liberal education, which grants us the ability to judge people INDIVIDUALLY. Posted 11/24/2008 9:00 PMReply
