15 Tufts Students Get Sued by the RIAA
The Physician, our resident expert tipster, has informed us here at TuftsOTR that 15 Tufts students have been subpoenaed by the RIAA for supposed "illegal downloading." Here is what our tipster has to say:
"Everyone always bitches about the RIAA because their entire legal strategy isn't to make up the money that they (say they) lose from file sharing, but to file huge lawsuits that get a lot of publicity and scare people into not sharing music.  As a result, they tend not to care too much if the people they catch are even guilty.

Most people see what they’re up against when they get word of their impending lawsuit that they settle and accept the RIAA's ‘generous’ offer to only have to pay them several thousand dollars.

Of the times people have fought back though, the RIAA has only ever won one case.  It happened two weeks ago, and a cracked out jury awarded the RIAA some $222,000 (for just 24 songs that she allegedly downloaded) from single mother of two making $36,000 a year."
What an accomplishment from our friends at the RIAA. What do you think about this? Are you one of the 15 and want to give us a statement? Let us know in the comments below!
