Common to play Spring Fling

Common to play Spring Fling
There has been much speculation about who would perform this year at Spring Fling; rumors range from Ace of Base to Third Eye Blind and Smashmouth, but still no official word until now. Thanks to a tipster, we have finally gotten one answer. According to the Bentley College Vanguard, Common and DJ Dummy will be performing at Tufts on April 26 (Spring Fling Day). Common will be playing both schools on the same day, as listed on DJ Dummy's Myspace page
(spelled Tufs University, what a joke).

To spare you from my musical taste, I'll ask: what do the masses think about this? Voice your opinions in the comments below.

Update: Confirmed by Concert Board in the Daily today. Ready for some "socially conscious alternative hip hop?"

common is terrible. He's a generic rapper that has yet to hit it big and lacks any true originality. Posted 03/30/2008 11:38 PMReply

I would much rather have the Flo Rida/TPain concert that UConn is having. Guess that is what you get when you charge students $20 and go to a big school. Posted 03/31/2008 07:41 AMReply

@ Anonymous: You can see Flo Rida for like 8 bucks at UMass Boston. That's all he's worth anyway.

Also, T-Pain is not a rapper; T-Pain is a computer.

It might be Third Eye Blind but no likely because they are scheduled to play Amherst the 26th but if Common is hitting two schools in one day maybe Third Eye Blind is as well. Posted 03/31/2008 1:17 PMReply

I heard from a reliable source that it is Third Eye Blind. They got a package deal with Common and Third Eye Blind to play at more than one college. Posted 03/31/2008 5:15 PMReply

Yeah...wow...I'm absolutely stunned that concert board is bringing quite possibly my #1 favorite artist of all time to spring fling my senior year. To the idiot that said "Common lacks originality," please stay home and don't taint the president's lawn with your presence. You clearly have not listened to more than 10 seconds of any of his songs. Stop being so incredibly ignorant, maybe you'll get somewhere in life. Posted 04/01/2008 10:47 PMReply

It's ****ing retarded that we pay $45k a year and still get the "package deal" spring fling Posted 04/03/2008 09:32 AMReply

^The artists we get for spring fling (more often than not) normally cost substantially more than Tufts available concert budget. We wouldn't get artists as good as we do if it weren't for "deals." I don't know if you realize how much artists typically cost. Posted 04/03/2008 10:02 AMReply

Concert Board is TCU funded, meaning all of the money that is budgeted for them comes from the student activity fee. Meaning the $285.00, or whatever it is. And Spring Fling isn't the only show they put on. They do 4 other shows too.

PS. Bands like the Foo Fighters cost $200k+
