Deer Hunting Season Begins, Venison Coming Soon To a Table Near You

Thanksgiving break is great isn't it? It's nice to take a week off from binge drinking with college friends to go home and binge drink with high school friends. But now you're back in Centre County, and just in time too. Today is the first day of deer hunting season! So get out there and take out that pent-up rage on an animal that can't fight back.

It's been said before and it'll be said again, Pennsylvania is Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with Alabama in between. But just to reiterate how "hickish" this area is, the high schools all have off today. Now, they'll try to say that it's part of the "Thanksgiving Holiday," but the truth is it's because it's the first day of deer hunting season.

But it isn't limited to high school students. Today's Collegian tells us that some Penn State students will be spending their day in the cold, rainy weather waiting for a deer to pass them in the woods rather than sitting in class.

We can get into an argument later about whether hunting is good or bad. But Nick Stumpo, a marketing major, gives us maybe the quote of the decade: "I don't think people really understand how much work hunting is," Stumpo said. "You really have to outsmart the animal."

Yes, he said "You really have to outsmart the animal."

Let's hope the "smart" deer don't take advantage of the hunters today. Wonder what major those deer are studying?
