When Phil Davis was at Penn State wrestler he was a four-time All-American and finished his career as the 2008 NCAA National Wrestling Champion. Pretty impressive. But unlike sports like basketball and football, the options for college wrestlers is limited after graduation. I'm sure Davis could have gone the Kurt Angle route and joined the WWE or something, but he decided to go a different direction - beating the hell out of people, like in the video above. If you don't want to watch the beginning bullsh*t, the match starts at 3:10 in the video.
Last weekend Phil "Mr. Wonderful" Davis made his Mixed Martial Arts debut in a heavyweight match against Kevin Wall at the House of Blues in Atlantic City. So, how did Davis do? Well, he knocked the guy out in 41 seconds, so I think he did pretty good.
I've actually had the pleasure of watching Davis train leading up to the match and he's a beast. Obviously as a national champion wrestler he doesn't need to work on his ground game at all, but in Saturday's match he didn't even need to get on the ground as he caught Wall with a left early in the first round.
Normally I would absolutely tear into anyone with the nickname "Mr. Wonderful," but I'm pretty sure Phil Davis can murder me with one punch, so ... awesome nickname Mr. Davis!
