With a band name of self-proclaimed celebrity, Anchorage, Alaska natives, The Lives of Famous Men step on the scene towing talent and ambition along with them. The band has garnered quite a formidable fan base, but has manged to stay out of the mainstream hoopla. TLOFM graced the pages of Alternative Press and rocked a couple of stages with an MTVu tour. The piano infused laid-back sound of this quintet is sure to keep new listeners engaged, and band members (Jason, Dylan, Dan, Ari, and Andrew) are aspiring to "strive for something more meaningful." Beyond the scope of pop hooks, the band has a solid, forceful energy emanating from their sometimes sullen lyrics.
The featured track, "You're Everyone I Know Right Now," begins with frantic, but melodic, piano keys straining with the same tension of, lead singer, Dan's voice. In a tender and sultry second, Dan lowers his voice to beg the listener to follow along on his story of misrepresentation and ill-perceived friendship.
Modern Love, The Wooden Vehicle, the most current release by The Lives of Famous Men, carries the same infectious pop-rock weight of the last album, Rehearsal. Both EPs would be a decent purchase, deserving more than a cursory listen.
Must Have Tracks: "Notes From A Cult Classic" and "Business As A Performance Art"
