Really irresponsible -- and hilarious -- journalism by the Somerville Journal. I just wish they had positioned the camera the other way, so we could see the frontal parts instead... Posted 12/11/2007 7:10 PMReply

How audacious... It's so wrong.

... and yet, so right.

You notice how she (he?) just straight up cut-and-pasted some of that article off of the Tufts University article on Wikipedia...

Most students run naked, but some wear costumes with capes or shrink-wrap.

looks familiar...

"Journal" implies some level of journalism. If this paper can't even get one of their subjects' gender right, they don't really count as reporters. Posted 12/11/2007 9:57 PMReply

hahaha check out the last coomment on the article its dude himself;

"Ms. Guha, you quote me saying that I'll attend the NQR "Cause we get to see naked people." Moreover, you suggest that I am indecisive as to whether I would participate in this event. However, I have never made such remarks, nor have I come across you. Your sources are forged. For instance, how do you justify that you refer to "Tufts junior Loren Kalm" as girl, when in fact this is a male student? "Tufts junior Loren Kalm was one of them, clutching HER quilted coat and wondering if HER butt showed as SHE trekked up to the quad. Asked why SHE was participating, SHE said [...]". Hmmm, is this journalism? I acknowledge that this fabrication/misuse of names and quotes could possibly be a careless mistake from your part (I hope it isn't intentional fabrication of sources), but the damage has been done, and your article is now published. As a 'journalist', or writer, you write under the banner of a media company, and if some legal action ensues, your editor has to represent you in court. While this incident might appear minor and discardable to you, I assure you that I am not taking the matter lightly, and I expect a swift and effective resolution. I expect to hear from the Somerville Journal, and that at the very least, this article, which uses my name illegitimately, will be immediately removed from your website. immediately"

This article is absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised tomorrow if they came out and said their systems had been hacked. It's almost incomprehensible the poor quality of the journalism and the absurdity in posting the video. I'm in the video, by the way, and I commented the article online (under user JB) as well as wrote a letter to the editor. I'm still in awe of the ridiculousness of it all. That article is more of an insult to journalism than we are.

Oh, and as for the falling: the kid got locked out of his room and so he climbed up and tried to jump to his balcony, and didn't quite make it.

Well this sure is interesting. If you haven't already, check out the comment board on the article, as it seems to be an epic battle between townies, students, conservatives, and liberals. Questions of morality and decency come to a head. Posted 12/12/2007 1:29 PMReply
