Penn State Has A Student Radio Station ... Barely

It's got to be hard running a student radio station these days. Sure, everyone's walking around with headphones on these days, but how many of them are actually connected to radios, much less 90.7? That's not to say the station is bad, we actually give it a listen quite frequently. And after today's Collegian article, we're shocked they make it on air at all.

In the article, Tom Shakely, who is named as the stations financial director in a previous Collegian article, lists the numerous obstacles confronting the station's members each day. From the 100 crew members not being able to log onto computers without an officer logging them in, to inactive Ethernet ports, the station seems to struggle each day. Shakely also says that $20,000 the station was allocated by UPAC is "collecting dust." It's unclear from the article exactly where the money is though.

The problems of The Lion aren't new. And since the creation of ComRadio there seems to be a war between the Internet radio station (and those who back it) and The Lion. There have been rumors that The Lion's broadcast license would be taken away and given to the College of Communications (of which ComRadio is a part). The lack of help the radio station is getting from the University would definitely lead one to give that rumor some validity.

But here's the big question: how often do any of you listen to the radio at all? Personally, we listen very rarely, but what about everyone else at the University?
