I'll admit it, I don't know jack about high school basketball in Pennsylvania. But, after doing a little research it looks like Terrelle Pryor's Jeannette Jayhawks have a very good shot of making it to the Bryce Jordan Center for the finals of the Pennsylvania state tournament on March 15. Top that Jim Tressel!
Tomorrow night, Pryor's team will play in the semifinals of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League playoffs. But apparently it won't matter if they win that title, they have already qualified for the state tournament. And from the sound of things Pryor, who was heavily recruited for basketball as well, has stepped his game up scoring 24 points, grabbing 24 rebounds, blocking eight shots and dishing seven assists. In an SI.com article today, Jeannette basketball coach Jim Nesser called it Pryor's "best overall game" in three seasons.
But maybe all the pressure of deciding a college and trying to lead his basketball team to a state championship is getting to Pryor. During the game on Saturday against South Fayette, it was reported that the opposing team's fans taunted Pryor throughout the game with one fan dressing in a Jim Tressel red sweater vest and yelled "here's your daddy for the next four years!"
Now that's just absurd for a number of reasons. Mostly because there's no way Pryor is going to any school for four years. Get it straight mini-Tressel.
But after the game, which went into overtime, exchanges between the South Fayette fans and Pryor got heated, with two South Fayette fans being escorted out of the gym and Pryor going towards the stands as if he was going to go after someone.
Although nothing ended up happening, a Whitehall Police Department officer seemed to cut Pryor a little slack saying (according to an Observer-Reporter column) “You’re lucky we didn’t take your kid (Pryor) in,” the officer said. “He threatened to go into the crowd.”
Damn, what's he going to do when he's playing for Penn State (please please please!) and the real Jim Tressel is yelling at him? Kick his ass hopefully, right?
