After graduation, there are still many, many life lessons to be learned. For example, things you should not to say to a police officer when he pulls you over for speeding.
Last Wednesday, a 40-year-old Washington resident learned this lesson the hard way when he was pulled over for reckless driving and ended up confiding in the state trooper that he sniffed cocaine – but only with prostitutes.
As we learned yesterday with the UConn student who was caught with marijuana in his dorm, possession of an illegal substance – even if you have no intention of selling it or using it often – is still a crime.
The Kitsap Sun reports:
The 40-year-old's blood-alcohol level was 0.22 — almost three times the legal limit, the trooper said. As the trooper was examining the man's driver's license, a white powder began to fall out of a crumpled up $100 bill in his wallet.
"What is that?" the trooper asked.
"That's cocaine," the trooper reported the man saying.
The man, who said he got it from a woman near a convenience store, added that he "buys the cocaine for the prostitutes" and said that "he only uses the cocaine when he is with the prostitutes," the trooper said.
The trooper added that he asked the man when he'd last used cocaine, and he said it was "with the prostitute tonight."
Oh, that's understandable. Surely, the compassionate officer was sympathetic to the man's cause, right?
The man was booked into the Kitsap County jail on $10,000 bail.
Guess not.
Lessons learned: Don’t use cocaine. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t sleep with prostitutes. And definitely, don’t do all three, then tell a police officer.
