Save the Auto Industry... Boycott Alabama!

Save the Auto Industry... Boycott Alabama!

Emotions have flared when it comes to whether or not the government should bailout the Big 3 automakers. However, rather than sit idly by, regular guy Joe Babiasz decided to take action. He’s calling on a boycott of Alabama (yes, the state) because of Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby’s criticism of the auto industry.

Detroit resident Babiasz worked for General Motors for 34 years and, unlike Shelby, he really believes in the auto industry. So, understandably, he’s angry with the senator. And thus he created BoycottAlabamaNow.com.

MyFox Detroit reports:

"You will not go to the state. You won't vacation there. You won't do any business there... won't purchase their cars," Babiasz says.

Babiasz wants people to write and call Sen. Shelby's office. He has links on his Web site. He says he's sorry to the hard working people of Alabama, but a message must be sent to their senator.

"My goal is to have a nationwide boycott, have thousands and thousands of people tell him, as well as the state chamber of commerce... we won't support your state. You don't support us, we won't support you," says Babiasz.

People go to Alabama?

That curiosity aside, if you feel strongly about saving the Big 3, check out the website and boycott Alabama also. And throw Arkansas in there too… what has it done for us lately?

Joe Babiasz is one bitter little man. He was probably the broom pusher that was over paid for years. He is only trying to protect his retirement check. Joe should do this..stick his hand in a bucket of water. Now pull it out and se how big the hole is that is left. That is how much affect he will have on Alabama. Get a life Joe. Have another
beer and chill.

Ah, yes, another uninformed poster. Retirees' pensions are handled by the union. Joe is bitter and so are millions of others whose jobs are connected to the Big 3. Yes, millions. Where were the postings when Shelby voted for the now $1 trillion bailout of the banking industries? A bailout, mind you, that had no public hearings, no strings attached, and no oversight. The big 3 are are asking for a LOAN, not a baiolout. Is everone under the great lakes this ignorant? Posted 12/11/2008 11:00 AMReply

For universities, it will have a major impact. GM invested $8.1B in research last year. As a researcher for GM, I have had to cancel contracts with various univeristies due to our financial difficulties. Univ of Al was on the list. We also purchase a significant amount of products for our assembly lines form Al. Guess what is getting chopped. Not necessarily as a boycott, but due to business. I hope Mercedes will invest $8.1B in hybrid, alternative fuel, and fuel cells. Posted 12/11/2008 9:51 PMReply

Richard Shelby is only concerned with his own agenda. The rest of the working folks. The foriegn alabama car makers are his friends. If the big three go under he will come out
a real winner. The future of the the country going down the drain for his republican stand. His vote should not be counted in the auto vote it is a conflict of personal instress.

Free trade, open borders, tax breaks to ship jobs overseas and now no loans for domestic automakers. The politicans in Washington have done more harm to this country than any terrorist group could hope for. We should bring our troops home and surround Washington that is where the real enemy is. If the domestic automakers go under Shelby will take a trip to Japan one day and get a million dollars a speech like ex-president regan did after he left office. The Japanese take good care of Americans who work for them. Posted 12/12/2008 2:31 PMReply

Senator Shelby is an @$$. For him to state that the big 3 have no technology shows his ignorance. Take a look at Motor Trend Car of the Year - Cadillac CTS. How bout North America's International Auto
Show Car and Truck of the year (Chevy Malibu and Silverado). What about the Corvette Z06 - a 200MPH super car at a fraction of the price of any competitor. Oh and GM sells more vehicles than any OEM INCLUDING Toyota. In fact, GM sells more cars than Toyota in EVERY country EXCEPT Japan. Why is that? I'll tell you - It's because the Asian population is dedicated to their country unlike all the STUPID Americans who buy foreign vehicles. If you want to drive a foreign car, why don't you move to that country. And after 9/11 - the big 3 donated 10 Million Each + matching employee contributions - guess what Toyota and Honda donated? You guessed it - $0.00. If that doesn't show what the other countries think of the USA, nothing will. Buy a GM, Ford or Chrysler product and help the American economy. Oh and one more thing, Senator Shelby, your an @$$!

Joe is angry, and lashing out at the state of alabama is not the answer. The people have made it clear they are tired of business as usual in our political system.Until the politicans get over themselves, and start representing(all the people)none of our problems will ever be solved. @ Anonymous: It is sad that you trivialize a persons life long work, their pension, their health care with an assumption that your fellow American is a lazy useless being. You have no idea how hard he worked. Doesn't bother an uninformed person like yourself that people are losing their homes, and their life long savings as long as it doesn't affect you, but maybe it eventually will. With Americans treating each other this way, terrorists aren't the greatest threat to destroying our country. We should be more unified and not try to knock other citizens down. God Bless the United States of Asia I would think that every Goverment official from the Mid West would come togeather and do everything possible to do no business with any state in the South. They either support us or are against us. But what goes around comes around. PS its American to be Un American Posted 12/13/2008 3:50 PMReply

I'm with him on the boycott, screw Alabama....and the rest of those red neck slave states too! Bush, and all the good old buys from down south got us into this mess anyway.

I'm ready for another North against the south, they never will be real Americans anyway.

My father is a Pearl Harbor survivor. He is 90.
He has never bought any car but GM.
I only buy American made. Once I bought a BMW and it was the most expensive car to repair. My fathers generation knew what it meant to stand together as one nation.
These posts indicate we have forgotten that lesson.
We sill pay.

Of course nasty Shelby voted no!!
Why wouldn’t this inbred vote against it when his state of Alabama rakes in a $1.61 in federal taxes for every $1.00 they send to Washington. Not to mention how many times have we had to rebuild the rich Gulf Shores coast line? Over and over we have rebuilt hurricane ravished Alabama!

rebuilding on right the damn coast you stupid hill billies or pay to fix it yourselves! The blue states have been funding the south for years! Time to turn off the feed trough! I already contacted my Senators demanding my tax dollars stop funding these half wit inbreeds from the south! No wonder they can give tax breaks to the transplant factories because states like Michigan are FUNDING THEM! DUH!

Here is a map showing how all the southern red states are feeding off the northern blue states! Red states might not like paying taxes but they have no problem using them up! You hill billies sure talk a big game! If you hate us some much why don't you pull your inbred rear ends away from the benefits trough????

I wish you would point to some facts on this one. Shelby has not directed any federal money to the transplants. All transplants have been recruited using State funds, just like the funds that the Great State of Michigan was offering VW to place a plant in that state.

You and I may not like what Shelby is doing, but for heavan's sake, please be as factual as possible.

The U.S. Government bailed out Mexico in the 90's and you didn't hear a peep from Sen. Shelby. But when U.S. Automakers need a loan he has a let them eat cake attitude. Posted 12/17/2008 3:17 PMReply

I am from AL and I work for an auto supplier here. The only thing that I agree with the Sen. on is that the big 3 need to change their business plan to one that works. As for all you Yankee pricks...... Fu## you, We don't need you bunch of whining ****s anyway!!!!!!!! Posted 01/13/2009 9:59 PMReply
