Terrace View, one of the few Apartment Complexes that is available for Virginia Tech students, has been experiencing some technical difficulties with a few of their complexes during the past couple of days. And I, one of lucky residents to experience the unwanted renovations, have something to say about it all.
This past Sunday, at approximately 3pm on possibly the hottest, sunniest day we've had in awhile, the power went out. Of course I was in the shower when the lights turned out, my laundry was in mid-cycle, and Zach was about to ask Kelly to go steady on Saved by the Bell. Life is so not fair.
In addition to this 24 hour power outtage, there has been a mini flood going on in front of my apartment complex. This flood has been strong since last Friday. Where is all this water coming from? The water is a really nice orange sorbet color and no matter how much you try to dodge it, it will touch you without fail. It's a really nice feeling having mysterious water between your toes and that awesome squeaky sound as you walk.
Oh, and have I mentioned the towing problem? Terrace View has decided to not be strict about towing for the first two weeks of school. I, and the rest of the residents of Terrace View, have been parking in another zip code it seems while non-residents have been stealing our parking spaces without consequences.
Maybe I'm just in a bad mood ever since the Starbucks guy gave me the wrong size drink today. But really, these problems got me thinking about the downsides of living off campus and I wanted to share my experiences so that you don't make the same mistakes. So if you're debating whether or not to move off campus next year, weigh the positives and negatives. There are definitely negatives like the problems beyond your control such as the ones I listed, in addition to dealing with bills, and public transportation. You just have to ask yourself, is it all worth it:? And maybe it is.
All I'm saying is, this flood needs to go. I'm about to put the towing service's number on my speed dial. And while the power outtage has been resolved, it won't bring back the damaged goods I had to discard from my refrigerator. And now I have to wait about another couple of months to catch how Zach and Kelly go official.
