Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is initiating a project to create an energy efficient supercomputer, which will be used for more accurate weather predictions. Former models would cost $1 billion and 200 megawatts, while this new one would cost $75 million and 4 megawatts.

And yes, it will be used to predict weather predictions. This is the part where we all get bored. Why can't it be used for something cool, like pwning fifty dudes at chess at the same time or simulating three dimensional holograms of molecular structures or Jessica Alba naked.

Nevertheless, there goes $75 million. If this thing catches a virus, we're screwed.
