Cat Wears Hat, Saves Train Company

What is the world coming to when a Cat posing as a station chief attracts passengers to the train company?

This story boggles me. A cat has helped save this "money-losing" train company by attracting passengers to ride the train. All the cat does is sit by the entrance to the train station, wear a hat, and pose for pictures. Apparently people will spend money on almost anything, including a cat wearing a train hat. Normally when I look at buying a service or product, I look for quality. I guess I should start considering the company's mascot as well.

"The Kishikawa line had been losing $4.9 million a year as passenger numbers fell steadily to as low as about 5,000 a day, or some 1.9 million a year.

After Tama's appointment last year passengers have been gradually returning, recently rising 10 percent to about 2.1 million a year.

In December Tama was rewarded with bonus pay — all in cat food."

Stockowners will be surprised to see how the company has turned away from trouble.
