Farewell, Chapel Hill History

Farewell, Chapel Hill History
As many of you have probably heard, The Rathskeller closed its doors last December after being open for almost 60 years.

The close was supposed to be temporary while the restaurant fixed its, er, tax problems, but suddenly the close is appearing to be more permanent. Tomorrow, relics collected during the restaurant's 60-year run will be auctioned off to pay its past-due taxes.

I just wrote a post making fun of the idea that Carrboro's identity is somehow connected with dubious taco vendors, but it seems accurate to say that Chapel Hill's identity really is connected with this dark, cockroach-infected restaurant located in a dangerous little alley. You will be missed, Rat.
