I hate it when people say, “oh this type of person would be more able to truly appreciate this type of artwork and so forth,” but given that this is a blog, that makes me a blogger. And as such, it is obviously easier for me to relate to the “teenagers” on Gossip Girl. Yes, Gossip Girl, the show based on a book about New York’s upscale prep school children and the shenanigans they get themselves into. And when I say shenanigans I mean each others’ genitals. And when I say prep school children I mean those startlingly mature teenagers who only really go to “school” to fill in the gaps left by commercial breaks.

There are several things that are great about this show. First and foremost, it’s based on a series of books, one of which I read and started with “I spend the morning in my room watching Nickelodeon,” which quite frankly means that these kids are in Nickelodeon demographic age 12-16. Considering the things these kids do, that’s pretty pedophilic (or awesome, if you are a registered sex offender). Also each episode ends with a monologue, a la Grey’s Anatomy, from Kristen Bell (you know, Veronica Mars) who incidentally is not even in the show. Thirdly, the show advocates date rape. In the first episode, during a party, Chuck, a senior, attempts to have his way with a freshman and explains, “it’s a party, things happen”. If character depth and development is what you’re after, he’s going to be a favorite of yours.

If pedophilia and date rape aren’t reason enough for you to watch, watch it for the sheer fact that it is a Monday night in Davis. You honestly have nothing better to do. CW. 8PM. Be there.
