There's More Than One Library?
Apparently "The Davis Library" is not a good enough name for the Davis Library. On Tuesday the name was changed to honor Mary L. Stephens. The Aggie reported:

"Stephens, whose 37-year tenure as County Librarian is unprecedented in the history of Yolo County, retired in December of last year - whereupon the Yolo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to rename the Davis branch in her name…The library provided [Stephens] with her first paid, non-farm job in 1956."

At first it doesn’t seem like an extraordinary accomplishment -- a woman worked at the county library for 37 years -- but her real achievement was finding work off the farm. PAID work, in fact; the Aggie wouldn't have noted that if it wasn't of some importance. The only question now is: there's a library that isn't Shields? Followed by: Why?
