Where's The Target?
There’s supposed to be a Target in downtown, at least according to the vote last fall, but it seems no progress has been made. The plot of land Target Corp purchased: 19 acres on Second Street, the old site of the Frontier Fertilizer Company. That’s not even the best part, though, the Davis Enterprise reported (it’s like this OTHER newspaper in Davis…or something):

“Target spent $296,795 on the winning campaign, while detractors spent close to $23,000 in hopes of defeating the project.”

Really? Someone decided that $23,000 would be enough when Target was spending close to $300,000. Well, that someone probably also thought this up (or said it):

“The store will take business away from the downtown, resulting in struggling small business owners and empty storefronts. Some Mace Ranch residents also campaigned against the big box, arguing when they bought their houses, they weren't led to expect a Target so close by.”

Have any of these people actually been downtown? It’s not exactly bustling. Also, God forbid Target move down and close down the other small businesses… like Gottschalks.
