Business Execs Vihad Manian and James Peterson Lied About College Degrees

It doesn’t take higher education to get far in business I guess. Just ask Microsemi Corp CEO James Peterson and Broadcom Corp. senior Vice President Vahid Manian. Turns out they both seem to have lied about their degrees.

Peterson claims to have graduated with bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Brigham young University, but a spokesman for the school says they have no record of a degree for him. One possible explanation is that Peterson got an associate degree from Ricks College in Idaho which eventually became Brigham young University Idaho. Only thing is… that is not the same school as the one in Utah and as a former junior college, it doesn’t count as a higher degree. Another possible explanation has to do with Peterson saying he earned credits while in the military. But with all of these explanations out there, Peterson has yet to produce a transcript as requested.

Similarly, Manian’s company bio lists that he earned bachelor’s and master’s of business administration degrees from University of California at Irvine. However, an official in the school’s registrar’s office says that while Manian did in fact attend UC Irvine from Sept. 1979 to august 1983, no degrees were awarded to him.

Ouch.

Bill Gates may have dropped out, but at least he was honest about it.

Knowing both Jim and Vahid ... if this is the most damning discovery a fraud investigation company can turn up on these two then, then Barry Minkow is the one that should be embarrassed. Posted 12/05/2008 05:44 AMReply

Jim Peterson is an extraordinary entrepreneur and leader who has taken Microsemi from virtually nothing to a world class organization. Further, he is a great friend and wonderfully generous supporter of the community which won't change whether or not he graduated from BYU or Paly High. Walkie Ray Posted 12/09/2008 6:05 PMReply
