Frightfully Inept 911 Call Center Launches Web Site, All is Fixed

Not so fast.

911 center director Joe "I don't think there is anything to apologize for" Norwick and company have launched Dane911.com, a sorry attempt to placate an angry and disheartened public.  The Dane County 911 Call Center has been under fire following news of the botched call from the cell phone of slain UW-Madison student Brittany Zimmermann April 2.

"Welcome to the Dane County Public Safety Communications website!"  Yay, a Web site, exclamation point!  In the words of Bonnie Raitt, "don't patronize me."  Are we really to believe this simple site has been in the works for "several months"?  Maybe it takes them as long to work on a Web site as it does to return a phone call.

"Please let us know how we are doing. Joe Norwick"  Are they serious?

"Dane 911.com links the public with important information that may some day help save a life," said Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk of the spin site. "It also offers an inside look at the hard work done every day by our 911 center professionals."

Let's keep our eye on the ball, shall we?  In more productive fashion, the Dane County Board is clamoring to hire more dispatchers as quickly as possible for the 911 center.  Amongst the resolutions at the Thursday County Board meeting was a motion to hire three new dispatchers.

Some "911 Facts" from the site:
"What do I do if I’m cut off after they answer?
Always try to call 9-1-1 back. Don’t wait for 9-1-1 calltaker to try to contact you. They may not have received your cell phone number in the initial 9-1-1 call and may need additional information."

Tell me about it.
