More Students Turning To The 'Net For Love
It wasn't so long ago that our cable channels weren't crammed with those sappy Match.com and eHarmony ads. But apparently they're working: since 2005, Match.com has seen a 12% increase in 18-24 year old users, and 12% of Chemistry.com's audience is also college-aged.

"I think the stigma of finding your significant other online is wearing down a little bit, and it's being more socially accepted," says University of Central Florida art major Erica Klosterman, who met her boyfriend on Yahoo! Personals. A UCF Facebook survey found a third of students have or would consider using an online dating site. (They can't all be geeks... right?)

But not everyone is so Web-positive. "The stigma exists because these sites are somewhat sleazy," says former Psychology Today editor Dr. Robert Epstein. "It's not like meeting someone in class and getting to know them. You're basically signing up to participate in a bar that's a million miles long."

(Anyway, is this really any sleazier than anything else that goes on at college?)

If Epstein's very poorly chosen metaphor appeals to you... The average age of users on OkCupid, i'minlikewithyou, and CollegeLuv is at least below 30. But if you're really looking to "meet someone in class and get to know them," yet all your Facebook pokes have been rebuffed, there might be a dating site just for your school, like the one at the University of Texas at Austin -- for students and staff!
