Stay Away From the Jersey Shore!

Stay Away From the Jersey Shore!
I have heard that the beaches at the Jersey Shore were the best. However, I have never heard anyone saying good things about their bars. And no wonder. They are cheap and trashy. The girls wear skimpy outfits and prance around looking to hookup and the guys stand around waiting for their opportunity. To top it all off, the music is horrible.

That, however, was not as bad as what we witnessed next. At the local pizzeria where we stopped by for a bite to eat, these two girls, one from the area and the other from Staten Island, were arguing. I was trying to socialize with my friends and enjoy my slice so I have no idea what they were arguing about. All I heard was one girl attempting to insult the other one by calling her “mom” because of her haircut.

Fierce, huh?

Eventually, the argument escalated and the Staten Island girl wanted to throw something at the Jersey girl and she actually did! Before I knew it, a fight broke out and all I could see were fists flying, hands slapping and people falling down and knocking things over.

One guy was actually attacking the Jersey girl. He grabbed her face and pushed it against the glass; he might have hit her too but I can’t say for sure. In the next moment, some guys were fist-fighting. It turned out one of them was the Jersey girl’s boyfriend coming to her defense.

How sweet.

In the meantime, people were trying to break up the fight including the poor pizzeria workers who had to watch as their restaurant got torn apart by obnoxious drunks. After some time, the fight ended but not without sustained injuries. One girl who I do not believed was involved in any way got her lip busted open. There was a pool of blood on the floor and she kept spitting out blood as she demanded for help.

My friends and I ran out of there as soon as some of the debris was cleared out of the way. Once we got into the car, we all agreed that we would never go back to the Jersey Shore again.

The whole time, those two girls were trashing each other and where the other came from. I think they were both out of line. They both obviously had a problem with each other but they generalized their insults to say that all Jersey girls or all Staten Island girls were _________ (enter your choice word here). There is just no reason for that.

I don’t even understand why they were arguing. Things wouldn’t have gotten out of hand if they had just ignored each other and especially if that Staten Island girl hadn’t thrown whatever it was at the Jersey girl. I guess the bars are what people make of it and because of what we witnessed, my friends and I will no longer visit those bars again.

Hey I wouldn't generalize the whole Belmar experience with one bar. I have been a renter for the past two years and me and my wallstreet friends find the other bars to be fun and satisfying at the same time. You just happened to go to the trashiest stereotypical bar in the whole area. I would suggest visiting 507 in Belmar, Osprey in Manasquan or the Parker House in Manasquan. You should find a crowd more fit for your approval. Posted 06/03/2008 12:29 PMReply

Woman, you impugn an entire region because of one bad experience which, in my humble estimation, wasn't even that bad.

"The girls wear skimpy outfits and prance around looking to hookup and the guys stand around waiting for their opportunity."

Umm, yeah, it's a pick-up bar, not church. Then you rant about a post-closing incident that's very common to, like, every bar scene in America: the beer-fueled pizzeria brawl.

Either you've not been around long enough to know better, or you're clueless. My money is on the latter.

Before you go spouting off on something you obviously know little about, do some homework or just get a little more experience under your belt. Your writing will benefit from it and you won't come across so pompous and immature.

Belmar and DJais in particular appeals to the NJ and Staten Island guido crowd. I wouldn't be caught dead in DJais!

Next time you venture down to the jersey shore, you should head over to Sea Girt and try the Parker House. I think that's probably a little more your speed.

Do your homework on where to go! As a NJ native and an Italian-American it is people like the ones in Belmar who make me sick. Another group of people who make me sick are pretentious snobs from New York City who think this is typical New Jersey. The worst parts of the state are the areas close to Staten Island, Hudson County, Camden, and AC. The rest of the state is pretty nice. Posted 06/03/2008 7:42 PMReply

Congratulations. You have just written one of the most prejudiced, uninformed things I've ever read. This incident could have happened anywhere. It could have featured a Boston girl fighting a Providence girl or a San Francisco girl against a Sacramento girl. Saying the Shore is terrible from this one night would be akin to my having an awful night at a Columbia party and deciding the entire Ivy League was full of toolbags.

"The girls wear skimpy outfits and prance around looking to hookup and the guys stand around waiting for their opportunity. To top it all off, the music is horrible."

Have you ever been to a bar or even a house party?

My guess is no.

Don't come back to the Shore. We're better off without you.

Yeah, the Jersey Shore is completely overrated and unbelievably lame. Posted 06/04/2008 10:20 AMReply

I went to the Jersey shore once and it was NASTY! I just don't get it! People talk about it like it's this paradise. My friend's boyfriend always wanted to go down there to surf. SURF? WTF? With the garbage washing into shore? Where the heck are the golden beaches? It was all grit and meatheads when I went. Gross! Posted 06/04/2008 12:16 PMReply

The Jersey Shore has something for everyone. It's got party beaches that attract plenty meatheads from Staten Island. It's also peaceful beaches surrounded by million dollar homes.

You spent one night in some awful club in belmar.

Don't knock the entire jersey shore because of it.

You are 100% right. Trashy and the total opposite of the beautiful Hamptons - where I suggest you go.
Please never go to NJ again - particularly on a Friday night when I am trying to get home.
