5) 2008 Sprinter Katerina Thanou is banned from the Beijing Olympics due to her conduct at the 2004 Olympics, when she and fellow Greek athlete Kostas Kenteris faked a motorcycle accident in order to avoid the mandatory drug testing. This followed a call from Thanou to be given Marion Jones’ gold medal after Jones was accused of doping. Thanou plans to sue the "totalitarian" regime more commonly known as the International Olympic Committee.


4)1988 Ticket manager, James McGregor, forced American customers to pay face value in U.S. dollars to his company, World Tickets for tickets to the Calgary Olympics, while he pocketed the difference between the exchange rate of the U.S. dollars and the lower valued Canadian dollars. Referred to "Jiminy Tickets," he faced litigation when the story of his fraud was leaked.

2) 1994 Tonya Harding, the trailer trashiest figure skater of all time, became so jealous that she hatched a plan with her ex-husband and accomplices to club rival figure skater Nancy Kerrigan at the U.S. Championships, the Olympic qualifier competition for figure skating. Kerrigan recovered after the attack, was granted a spot on the Olympic team anyway, and won an Olympic silver medal. Harding was banned from the United States Figure Skating Association.


1) 2007 Naked photos of French Olympic swimming champion Laure Manadou were mysteriously posted on the internet, within hours of her breakup with Italian Olympic swimmer Luca Marin, for whom she had left her coach and country. Adding insult to injury, that same year, Marin began dating Manadou’s arch swimming rival Federica Pelligrini, the woman who broke Manadou’s swimming record in the 400m free. Both women are competing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
